We wanted to personally thank everyone for their generous donations to Compassion…let it begin with me. Through everyone’s generous donations we have raised over $60,000 year to date!
As you know, our Mom’s wish was to show compassion to others who were undergoing cancer treatments. We delivered on that wish and made our first delivery of neck pillows on July 17th to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. Our next delivery is scheduled for late-August and we will continue to make regular deliveries on an as needed basis. The Yale coordinator, Annie Kaplan wrote:
I just wanted to let you know that the pillows are an extreme hit. They have brought many, many, many smiles to people that don't have much reason to smile. I am told that many patients complain of neck discomfort and when they are given a pillow are able to fall asleep! How can we thank you for your generosity, words are not enough but please know that we are very grateful."
We couldn’t have expected a better response - just what Mom wanted! She always knew how to comfort others.
Memorial Sloan Kettering has also agreed to accept pillow donations. It was been almost eight months since we lost our Mom, but we see her every day in so many ways. Since her funeral, we’ve heard numerous stories about how people have stopped smoking. We’ve also received wonderful anecdotes from friends and relatives who heeded her advice to reach out to friends and loved ones they might have lost touch with – “be the bigger person” so to speak. And of course, we see her compassion for others every day and we will work the rest of our lives to share that compassion with others.
Thanks again for all of your support,
Dean, Dylan, Dale & Dustin
